Landlord Advice

The relationship that you have with your landlord is possibly one of the most important relationships you’ll have in your life. Obviously it’s a different kind of relationship than you have with friends, parents, significant others, etc. - but like those relationships, a landlord/tenant relationship takes a lot of hard work, honesty, and trust to work.

If you can build a good relationship with your landlord then they will be more likely to afford you some flexibility when you need it. However, you cannot expect this kind of treatment from your landlord if you are rude or demanding.

The landlord/tenant relationship is automatically filled with a lot of tension. It is important to understand this so you can minimize that tension whenever possible. What is the best way to minimize this tension? Communication.

Communication is the most important piece of a landlord/tenant relationship. It is very easy to jump to conclusions about your landlord’s intentions, and on the flip side, it’s easy for them to jump to conclusions about you. But, if you keep the lines of communication open, there’s less of a chance of that happening.
