GM Building Up for Sale
Although it’s not an apartment building, it is worth mentioning that the GM building is up for sale, and it could go for $3 billion - a record price for an office building.
The General Motors building, 50-stories and constructed in 1968 is on the southeast corner of Central Park across from the Plaza Hotel, and occupies a full city block. If you’re not from the City, its probably best known as the home of two major tourist attractions, the FAO Schwarz toy store, and Apple’s glass cube store.
GM sold it back in the early 90’s, and now only takes up a few floors in the building.
If the sale price does hit $3 billion, that easily exceeds the previous record in the city - $1.8 billion in 2006 for a 41-story building six blocks down on Fifth Avenue.
